Taking these two contrast colours for the title of this article to talk briefly about the spirit and philosophy of life of Westerners. This is of course a vast topic. However, while we have plenty of spare time, let’s talk about it a little bit, on the occasion of Uncle Bi's announcement, yesterday, that he ordered to stop buying gasoline from Russia. Deep inside his heart and likewise from many leaders of countries: Okay, want to ban, ban anything, but banning gasoline is no, no!! Because the damage would be huge. If Russia loses one, the rest of world will lose ten. So the leaders want to go....bowed legged. Just want to ban something that does little damage to them. This is morally wrong. Strangely use the argument that banning Russia from having the ability to invade but oil is a different matter. In reality, there are no different at all, all of them are one way or another pumping money to Russia for Putin to continue the atrocity in Ukraine. It goes against the people's hearts and minds if oil is exempted. In free and democratic countries, people have representatives to speak up for themselves. That's why, Uncle Bi had to reluctantly "follow" the will of the US people, though it was a bit late but better than not. It has been his inborn norm, he was very enthusiastic about withdrawing, but with fighting, he was weak like jelly.

When first entered the Faculty of Literature, University of Saigon, I enrolled with the philosophy branch. There were two programmes for students to choose from: Eastern philosophy and Western philosophy. Just subdivided for future specialised field, the lecture courses were the same. The smart thing of the administrators of the Faculty of University of Saigon was there. On paper it stated enrolling with one or the other but students still had to learn all, not like after 75 only Karl Marx. Eastern philosophy holds the belief that: good and evil, right and wrong, everything is one, coexisting side by side (yin and yang). When one dominates, the other recedes, thereby giving birth to the universe as well as the human spirit. I studied Eastern philosophy, so my thoughts are always neutral, and have been using it throughout my life. For example, if a bad looking boy is sure will get... a beautiful wife. If a man is imbecile, his wife will be smart.... ( only use this simple comparison just for easy to understand, folks)

The foundation of Western philosophy is different. There are two distinct sides like black and white, no colour... grey. So it's very extreme. Play with them, you know, socializing is fine, but intimacy is difficult. In their society, if we lose their trust, it's hard to have a chance to correct the mistake. That's why there was gunfights, face to face, whoever draws the gun out first wins (but must shoot to hit the target!). One survives and one dies, no ambiguity.

Everything has its advantage or disadvantage –pro and con, and arguments have been dragging on for hundreds of years between the two beliefs since West met East and still have not been settled, so you just listen to me chatting around for fun, don't rush into this with a conclusion, it takes a lot of paper and ink. I just want to express my admiration to them (Westerners) with their bold decision in banning petroleum sale from Russia. The petroleum embargo is to bring harm to themselves right now even though the war is far away and they are not directly involving. But they respect what is right. When the UN resolutions condemned Russia's aggression, they obeyed. We often looked down on this organization. It's correct as well. They have no direct authority and real military power but they are the voice of the conscience of humanity. And countries that disregard this organization often suffer dire consequences.

Writing this is just to comfort you people. Bearing a little expensive gasoline is also contributing to the end of the terrible and unjust war in Ukraine. If you understand that, then let's just pull out and swipe the card, don't bother to look at how much it is. Love all!!

Lấy cái mầu này làm tựa bài viết nói về cái tinh thần hay cái triết lý sống của người phương tây một chút. Dĩ nhiên đây là một phạm trù rộng lớn . Tuy vậy, lúc trà dư tửu hậu, mình tám về nó chút chơi, nhân cái chuyện bác Bi ngày hôm qua tuyên bố hỏng mua luôn xăng dầu từ Nga. Trong thâm tâm của bác và bao lãnh đạo các nước đều muốn cấm gì thì cấm chớ xăng dầu là không cấm vì thiệt hại rất lớn. Nga thiệt một thì thế giới thiệt mười. Cấm người ta mà mình chết trước mới lạ đó. Nên mấy lãnh đạo muốn đi... chàng hảng. Chỉ muốn cấm cái gì mà ít gây thiệt hại cho phe nhà mà thôi. Điều này về mặt đạo đức thì sai. Cấm để Nga không có khả năng xâm lược mà lại mua dầu có khác gì bơm tiền cho họ chơi tiếp. Vì thế lòng dân không chịu. Mà ở xứ dân chủ, người dân có đại diện nói lên tiếng nói hợp với mình. Chính vì lẽ đó, bác Bi " chiều " theo ý dân, dù có hơi muộn vì xưa nay đụng chuyện rút lui thì bác hăng hái, còn chuyện đánh đấm thì bác xìu lắm.

Hồi mới vào Văn Khoa ghi danh theo học ban triết. Có hai ban cho sinh viên chọn lựa là triết đông và triết tây. Phân chia vậy thôi chớ vô học thì sách vở (courses) đều giống nhau. Cái hay là ở chỗ đó. Mình học cái này mà vẫn phải học cái đối lập, chớ không học một chiều như sau 75. Nền tảng triết đông cho rằng thiện ác, đúng sai, gì gì đó đều là một ( âm dương). Cái này trội thì cái kia lặn, từ đó sản sinh ra vũ trụ cũng như tâm linh con người. Tui học triết đông nên suy nghĩ của mình luôn trung dung, và dùng nó đi suốt cuộc đời của mình. Thí dụ như xấu trai chắc chắn lấy được... vợ đẹp. Con trai mình khù khờ thì vợ nó sẽ lanh.... (Nói vui vậy cho dễ hiểu đó mà.)

Nền tảng triết tây phương thì khác. Trắng đen phân biệt, không có màu... grey. Nên rất cực đoan. Chơi với họ thì biết. Xã giao thì xuề xoà sao cũng được nhưng thân tình rất khó. Xứ của họ nếu mình làm mất lòng tin thì khó có cơ hội sửa sai. Bởi vậy mới có cái vụ đấu súng. Mặt đối mặt, ai rút súng trước thì thắng ( nhưng phải bắn cho trúng). Một sống và một chết chớ không nhập nhằng.

Cái nào cũng có cái hay của nó và tranh cãi thì cũng mấy trăm năm nay chưa đi đến đâu nên bà con ta nghe tui tám sơ cho vui chớ lao vô cái này tốn giấy mực lắm. Tui chỉ muốn nói lên một khâm phục với họ ( người tây phương). Việc cấm vận xăng dầu là mang thiệt hại đến chính họ ngay bây giờ dù chiến tranh là ở xa xôi không dính dáng. Nhưng họ tôn trọng lẽ phải. Khi nghị quyết LHQ lên án Nga xâm lược thì họ tuân theo. Phe ta cứ coi thường tổ chức này. Đúng. Họ không có quyền hành trực tiếp nhưng họ là tiếng nói của lương tâm nhân loại. Và những nước coi thường tổ chức này, thường nhận nhiều hậu quả.

Viết để an ủi bà con. Chịu xăng dầu mắc chút cũng là góp phần làm chiến tranh mau chấm dứt. Hiểu được vậy thì thôi ta rút thẻ quẹt một cái , đừng thèm nhìn xem hết bao nhiêu nhé. Thương!
